Telcos seek audit proof for alleged tax under-declaration

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has responded to the alleged under-declaration of tax recently leveled against the industry by the Minister of Communications.  The CEO of the Chamber, Kenneth Ashigbey, issuing a signed statement said the Chamber of Telecommunications has requested for the audited report from GRA to ascertain the minister’s claims.

The Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, in addressing the media a while ago, indicated that that the common platform KelniGVG has saved the country from potential under-declaration of tax.  She said that the common platform has saved the country GH¢1.5 billion.  To further buttress the cost savings and successes by KelniGVG, she intimated that some telcos had under-declared taxes from 2015 to March 2017 in which Ghana must have lost some GH¢300 million.

Mr. Ashigbey in a signed statement said that no such situation has been brought to the attention of telcos.  The statement pointed out that “on the contrary, interim reports received from the Ghana Revenue Authority regarding the Common Platform do not support these allegations”.  He called for a close collaboration between regulators and industry to forge the industry forward.
