Christopher Nimley: Ban football administrators from owning clubs

Ghana suffered a humiliating group-stage exit at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after the four-time champions were beaten 3-2 by debutants Comoros

Christopher Nimley, a sports analyst and coach is advocating for a rule that will ban football administrators in the country from owning clubs.

His comment comes after the alleged involvement of the president of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Okraku in the selection of players into the national team.

Speaking with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on The Asaase Breakfast Show Thursday (27 January), Nimley said the move will help avoid conflict of interest in the administration of football in Ghana.

“Go to the camp of the national Under 15, 17, 20 it is all about players belonging to Kurt Okraku and his people. He alone has about six football clubs in Ghana, … are they the only people doing football, this man must be compelled and stay off player selection,” he said.

“And the best way to do that is to bring a rule or regulation that will ban people who own football clubs not to be running our football. If you were the one there you will definitely have conflict of interest.”

GFA sacks Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac

The executive council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday (26 January) sacked the Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac after a poor showing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

This follows the receipt of the technical report from the coach, the medical report and the report from the management committee following Ghana’s early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 tournament.

“The executive council after considering the three reports and engagements with key stakeholders has decided to end its relationship with coach Milovan Rajevac and also decided that the Black Stars management committee be reconstituted,” the GFA said in a statement.

“The association would like to thank Milovan Rajevac and the management committee the very best in their future endeavours.

“The GFA will soon announce the reconstituted Technical Team and Management Committee after due engagement with all relevant stakeholders,” the statement added.

Ghana’s next assignment is a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 playoff against Nigeria in March 2022.
