Ghanaians Abroad: Ayew and Schlupp on target, Williams struggles

Andre Ayew got on the scoresheet for Le Havre in their surprising 3-3 draw against league leaders Paris Saint-Germain

Ghanaian footballers across Europe’s top leagues produced a mixed bag of results this weekend, with some excelling and others enduring frustrating outings. Here’s a closer look at their performances:

Premier League

  • West Ham’s Kudus a Double-Edged Sword: Mohammed Kudus played a full 90 minutes for West Ham in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool, assisting Jarrod Bowen’s opener. However, his overall performance was average, with an 8/16 success rate in ground duels and a 65% pass accuracy.
  • Crystal Palace’s Schlupp Scores Dramatic Equaliser: Coming on as a substitute for fellow Ghanaian Jordan Ayew in the 76th minute, Jeffery Schlupp made a decisive impact for Crystal Palace. He netted a stunning goal in the 87th minute to secure a vital point for the Eagles, while Ayew also impressed with a strong showing throughout the match.
  • Partey Anchors Arsenal to Victory: Thomas Partey put in a commanding performance for Arsenal in their 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur. He boasted 93% pass accuracy, made key blocks and interceptions, and won five ground duels.

La Liga

  • Baba on Almería Bench in Defeat: Iddrisu Baba remained an unused substitute for Almería as they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Getafe.
  • Williams Struggles for Athletic Bilbao: Iñaki Williams had a disappointing outing for Athletic Bilbao in their 3-1 loss to Atlético Madrid. He struggled in duels with a 7/13 success rate, and his shots lacked accuracy.
  • Mumin Solid Despite Rayo Vallecano Loss: Abdul Mumin played the full game for Rayo Vallecano in their 3-0 defeat to Villarreal. While his side lost, Mumin displayed decent defensive contributions with clearances, blocks, and interceptions. He also showcased good passing range with 93% accuracy.

Serie A

  • Duncan Shines in Fiorentina Rout: Alfred Duncan had a strong performance for Fiorentina in their emphatic 5-1 victory over Sassuolo. The Ghanaian completed most of his long balls (4/5) and finished the game with an impressive 88% pass accuracy.
  • Pfeiffer Makes Costly Error for Augsburg: Patric Pfeiffer’s second-half introduction for Augsburg proved disastrous. He conceded a penalty that led to a goal in their 3-0 defeat to Werder Bremen. Despite winning all aerial duels, his overall performance was poor.

Ligue 1

  • Andre Ayew Scores in Le Havre Draw: Andre Ayew got on the scoresheet for Le Havre in their surprising 3-3 draw against league leaders Paris Saint-Germain. He netted their second goal before being substituted in the 71st minute.
