Court stops 4 June armed demonstration

Convenors of the #FixTheCountry movement had earlier served notice to embark on a three-day armed demonstration in Accra

An Accra High Court has restrained the organisers of the intended armed demonstration from hitting the street on 4 June.

Convenors of the #FixTheCountry movement had earlier served notice to embark on a three-day armed demonstration in Accra.

But on 1 June, the police filed a Motion on Notice at the High Court to restrain the organisers.

A statement issued by the police on Friday (3 June) said, ā€œthe organisers, represented by Benjamin Darko, were duly served with the Motion on Notice which application was heard today, 3 June 2022, at the Criminal High Court 4.ā€

ā€œAfter hearing of the application, the court grants an order to restrain the organisers, their agents, assigns and whoever is claiming through them from embarking on the armed demonstration as had been intended,ā€ the statement added.

The police have, however, assured the public that they will not be an impediment in the way of any individual or group in the exercise of their right to demonstrate.
