Edem Senanu to anti-graft bodies: Crack the whip like OSP

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has recovered over GHC1 million in import duties not paid to the GRA by Labianca Foods, which belongs to Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh

The co-chairman of the Citizen’s Movement against Corruption (CMaC), Edem Senanu has singled out the Office of the Special Prosecutor(OSP) for waging a relentless war against corruption in recent times.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has recovered over GHC1 million in import duties not paid to the GRA by Labianca Foods, which belongs to Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday ( 30 August), Senanu charged other anti-graft bodies in the country to up their game.

“We need many more of the anti-graft organisations to be up and doing as the current OSP is doing,” he said.

“This is why many of us were disappointed with Martin Amidu stepping out of office without exercising the scope of his powers [as OSP] because we knew the breadth of the powers given him and he did not utilise enough of it.”

He added, “We need to do a much more thorough job to find how much has been lost. Three years ago, an estimated three billion was lost through corruption … a proper investigation may bring out more staggering numbers.”

Sensitization

Senanu is pushing for more sensitization on the impact of corruption in the country.

Digitalisation is one of the ways to reduce corruption because as you reduce the human interface, you reduce the opportunity and points of corruption.”

“It is essential that the populace are educated by independent institutions on the impact of corruption on livelihood and just how much we have lost from it. Ghanaians need to be angry if we want to see change,” he said.
