Efya’s stage performances inspire me, says NaaNa Blu

In an interview with Naa Ashorkor she said "Although I don't have a mentor, I like the way some people talk, I like the way some people sing, I like the way some people perform."

Ghanaian singer and songwriter, NaaNa Blu has cited the live stage performances of singer, Efya as an inspiration for her career.

In an interview with Naa Ashorkor on the Between Hours Show on Wednesday (20 July), she said, “Although I don’t have a mentor, I like the way some people talk, I like the way some people sing, I like the way some people perform.”

“So I take my inspirations from different sources and then I come out with my own. I look up to Efya in terms of performance. In terms of voices, I take inspiration from all the female artistes [Ghanaian artistes] and come up with my own,” she added.

NaaNa Blu again described fellow highlife singer Kofi Kinaata as a good lyricist “Kofi Kinaata is a very good writer, I mean the lyrics are top-notch”.

Highlife music

She, however, said her favourite song to compose is “This is Highlife” because it takes her back to her roots.

Her ‘Highlife EP’ is a five-track compilation with collections like Ohia, Odo Asem, U dey do yourselfThis is highlife and Highlife dance.

“I’m a very typical coastal area girl. I grew up around highlife songs, because some of us where we grew up we have no option, especially when there are funerals.”

“Even when you are sleeping you can hear the songs. I mean every Saturday they play highlife songs, so I grew up falling in love with the genre.

“I felt like if I’m going to be a musician, I need to do what really depicts who I am. I’m also doing highlife to honour the old people who really started the highlife journey,” NaaNa Blu added.

She appreciated her fans – Blu lovers, “for their consistent support of my career “I want to also thank the media and all my French people.”
