At a press conference scheduled to take place in Accra this Founders’ Day, Tuesday 4 August, the organisers are expected not only to feature the two celebrated rivals Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, but also to announce the date for their clash, which has remained a closely guarded secret.
The sound clash has generated a lot of interest, both locally and internationally, with two top UK DJs, Seani B and DJ Ace, both of Asaase Radio in Accra and BBC 1Xtra in London, leading the international campaign.
It all started about a week ago as a simple social media post asking music lovers who, in their view, was the biggest dancehall musician in Ghana.
The post featured a short video highlighting all the drama that has happened in the past between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, two of the greatest dancehall talents in Africa.
On the big question of which of the two musicians rules, Asaase Radio asked, “Shall we settle this matter once and for all?” Polls were swiftly conducted online, which received over 50,000 respondents within a matter of days, in a very keen contest which may only be settled properly with the actual sound clash.
Two giants go to war
Asaase Radio has heeded the wishes of music lovers with the Asaase Sound Clash – a virtual event themed as “A Clash To Crush COVID”, featuring these two giants in a musical battle which, hopefully, will end all the arguments.
Commenting on the launch, Naomi Nelson-Barnes, head of marketing, communications, events and promotions at Asaase Broadcasting Company, says: “I have to admit the response has been even bigger than we anticipated. This event will be the first of its kind and we are really excited to see how it all turns out.”
The 4 August launch event will be broadcast live on Asaase Radio 99.5 and will be streamed on the website, www.www.asaaseradio.com, as well as all the station’s social media portals. It will also be accessible on the Asaase Radio YouTube channel and the Asaase Radio mobile app, which is available for both Android and Apple phones through the respective app stores.
The date for the final showdown is yet to be set this evening, but the Asaase Sound Clash already promises to be one of the hottest events to look out for.
