Ejisu by-election: We don’t know Esther Osei, says CPP

The CPP has filed an injunction to stop the Electoral Commission from going ahead with the Ejisu by-election

The Ashanti regional secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Issah Abdul Salam, has stated that the party is unaware of their purported candidate for the Ejisu by-election, Esther Osei.

This has led the CPP to file an injunction on the upcoming by-elections slated for Tuesday (30 April).

According to the party, they had written to the Electoral Commission (EC) on 18 April to inform them of their intention not to contest the upcoming by-election.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Big Bulletin on Wednesday (24 April), Salam said in his 14 years as a regional executive of the party, he has never once met Osei.

“We are not even aware of the Esther [Osei] in question and we have never seen her before, neither have we ever engaged her to know even why she is contesting.”

“We don’t know her; I have been a regional executive of this party for 14 good years. I have never met her in my life at Ejisu that this is Esther in any event of CPP.”

The Ashanti regional secretary further stated that though Esther Osei could be a member of the party, the most important thing is that the party does not know whether she qualifies to represent them at the Ejisu by-election.

“She can be a member of the party but what is most important is that we want to know whether she really qualifies to be MP; that is what we are looking at.”
