Ejisu NPP primary: I’m unfazed by Nyantakyi’s bid, says Amoah-Boaitey

The emergence of Nyantakyi as a prominent figure in the campaign has intensified the competition among candidates vying for the slot

One of the candidates in the Ejisu NPP primary, Abena Pokuaa Amoah-Boaitey has expressed her unwavering confidence despite the strong presence of Lawyer Kwasi Nyantakyi, former president of the Ghana Football Association, as a contender.

The governing party is searching for a candidate to replace the late Dr John Kumah who until his death served as Member of Parliament for the area.

The emergence of Nyantakyi as a prominent figure among the nine candidates has intensified the competition among candidates vying for the slot.

But speaking on ‘Mid-Week Matters’ on Asaase 98.5 on Wednesday (10 April) Amoah-Boaitey told host John Ashong Mettle that she is undeterred by Nyantakyi’s involvement in the race.

“I don’t see him [Nyantakyi] as a threat at all”, Boaitey said. “His achievements may be unmatched in a different category which is sports and the football arena. But when it comes to politics, it will be a tough one for me to believe that he is a candidate suitable for this side. Everybody thinks they have the chance but at the end of the day there is only one person who will hold the mantle and I think I am the preferred choice.”

Popularly known as ‘Ejisu Broni’, Amoah-Boaitey, who is contesting for the fifth time, has also been justifying why she remains the best woman candidate to retain the seat for the NPP.

“I think also the change is the fact that the delegates see that I am mature now. They see that I am now ready to work with them. They see that I know the terrain and I know the people as well. At the end of the day let’s not forget that there is going to be an independent candidate on the other side and so we need someone who is very viable, strong, competent and knows what she is doing and who can fight for the NPP to break the eight”, she remarked.

The election will be held on Saturday (13 April 2024). The winner will contest the by-election set to be held on 30 April 2024, supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
