NSA board chair warns against poor maintenance of Baba Yara Stadium

The chairman of the National Sports Authority, Seth Panwum, says the Authority is committed to keeping the Baba Yara Stadium in good condition and will make sure whoever is caught destroying anything at the stadium is punished

The chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Seth Panwum, says whoever is caught destroying anything at the newly refurbished Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will be dealt with.

The facility, which was recently opened and started hosting games in the Ghana Premier League, had been closed for renovation since February 2020.

Panwum, who was at the Baba Yara Stadium to supervise the first home game of Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, spoke of the government’s commitment towards the development of sports and also the need to keep the stadium in good condition.

“The stadium you see here today is a bold statement that we believe in sports, the investments made and its potential impact will mean nothing if we don’t embrace the culture of maintenance,” said Panwum.

“Let me assure you that my office will do all that is required to ensure that this stadium is utilised and that the country will have value for money.

“I therefore demand full corporation from all stakeholders in this regard. This will include the establishment of reports and feedback algorithms amongst stakeholders as well as the adherence of all NSA protocols. Anything short [of that] will not be countenanced,” he said.

The chairman also led a group of NSA representatives to make a donation of five table tennis playing tables and various accessories to the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Table Tennis Association.
