First visually impaired PhD graduate from UCC to establish NGO

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (1 February), Ayamba said, “I lost my sight during a road crash in Accra”

Dr Ben Bishop Nyanihorba Ayamba, a native of Pusiga in the Upper East Region who recently graduated with a doctorate in guidance and counselling at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has said he intends to establish a non-governmental organisation to impact the society, especially persons with disability.

After a car accident in Accra in 1995 that deprived him of his sight, he undertook a rehabilitation course at the School for the Blind in Akropong. He then studied for his O’ levels in braille at the Presbyterian Training College, also in Akropong.

Ayamba pursued further education at UCC after completing his teacher training college in 1999. He was subsequently assigned to teach at the junior high school in Ntonso, where he worked for two years before he enrolled in UCC in 2001 for his first degree, completing in 2004 with a degree in English and psychology.

He taught English at Mampong Technical College of Education and returned to UCC after three years to pursue a Master of Philosophy degree in guidance and counselling.
