Five things you (probably) didn’t know about Medikal

Samuel Adu Frimpong, professionally known by his stage name Medikal, is a Ghanaian hip pop musician/rap artist

Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, born 4 April 1993 is a Ghanaian hip-hop musician born to Porshia Lamptey and James Frimpong in Sowutuom, a suburb in Accra, Ghana.

He was signed by Criss Waddle, owner of Arab Money Gang (AMG), in 2010.

Here are five facts you (probably) didn’t know about him:

Interest in music at a young age

His interest in music, especially rap, started at a young age, with him experimenting with lyrics related to the medical profession.

Medikal adopted the name ‘Medikal’ because he was fascinated with rapping at a very young age. He took an interest in rapping about doctors, surgeons, medical practitioners and hospitals in general. He referred to his raps as ‘sick’ not because they were unhealthy but because they were very creative, good, and ‘ dope’. He also stated that the name Medikal was given to him in junior high by his school father.

Though his music career started in 2014, his major break was in 2017, when he received the highest nominations at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards. Medikal was christened with his musical moniker in secondary school by his school father.

A fan of Lil Wayne

He also stated that he’s inspired by international artists like Lil Wayne and Skepta , as well as Sarkodie Criss Waddle, Pae Dae and Yaa Pono. Medikal has released a number of songs and also featured some Ghanaian artists. ‘Forever my love ‘ featuring Bisa Kdei,‘ Per Kakra’ featuring Criss Waddle,‘ Confirm and Confirm remix ‘ featuring Sarkodie among, many others.

A household name

Medikal has made a name for himself in the music industry through hard work and his numerous collaborations with successful artists.

Known for his energetic performances and confident stage presence, Medikal has become a fan favorite in Ghana and beyond. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy.

In 2017, he was one of the highest-nominated artists alongside Sarkodie in the Ghana Music Awards. He also won IARA Best African Music Artist in 2018. Apart from his nominations in 2017, he won the best discovery video in the MTN 4Syte Music Video Awards in 2016.

Philanthropic acts

In addition to his music career, Medikal is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He has been involved in various charity projects in Ghana, including providing scholarships to underprivileged children and supporting healthcare initiatives.

Despite his success, Medikal remains humble and grateful for the support of his fans. He continues to push boundaries and experiment with his sound, ensuring that his music remains fresh and relevant in the ever-changing music industry.

In the middle of a divorce settlement

Rapper Medikal has released a new song titled My Story, seemingly centred around his separation from estranged wife Fella Makafui. The rapper opens up on how he is feeling amid the controversies surrounding his marriage.

Medikal also alludes to his concern of losing his properties amid the divorce, including ownership of their East Legon home. Amid all this, Medikal says God keeps him strong and grounded.

This comes after Medikal made serious allegations against his estranged wife, Fella Makafui. Among other things, he claimed the actress had undergone a tummy tuck surgery to promote her slim tea business.

According to him, although he initially disapproved of the idea, he ultimately paid for her surgeries in Nigeria and Turkey to ensure her happiness and spent over €25,000 on the procedures and related expenses.

However, with his talent, charisma, and dedication to his craft, Medikal is sure to continue making waves in the music industry for years to come. Fans can expect more hit songs and electrifying performances from this Ghanaian rap sensation.
