#FixTheCountry demonstration: police say there will be adequate security

The police met with convenors of the demonstration on Monday to agree on the routes and measures to respect COVID-19 protocols

The Ghana Police Service has assured #FixTheCountry campaigners of adequate protection in the lead-up to their demonstration on planned for 4 August.

This follows a meeting between the police and convenors of the campaign at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday 19 July 2021.

“The police are poised to provide the necessary security for the safety of the planned procession of members of the #fixthecountry movement on Wednesday 4th August, 2021,” the police posted on Facebook.

According to the police, they have agreed on routes for the demonstration and the need to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols with the organisers.

“All matters relating to the special event was discussed and agreed, including the routes and COVID-19 protocols. The police and convenors will continue to deliberate,” it said.

Ghanaians protest in Spain

Scores of Ghanaians last month demonstrated in Spain to push the Akufo-Addo government to fix challenges facing the country.

Protesters held placards with inscriptions such as “Fix the country now”, “Stop corruption” and “We need good leaders”.

The demonstrators were unhappy about what they describe as bad governance, youth exploitation, unemployment, killer taxes, high cost of living and corruption.

They are also unhappy about seeming exploitation by the Ghana Embassy in Spain, which they accuse of charging high fees for consular services.
