Gender Minister inspects ongoing construction projects in West Mamprusi

The minister also visited beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in the West Mamprusi municipality

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection and the Member of Parliament for the Walewale, Lariba Zuweira Abudu has embarked on a two-day visit to her constituency to inspect ongoing developmental projects initiated by the government.

The minister also visited beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme who were receiving the grant at Gaagbini in the West Mamprusi municipality of the North East Region.

A total of 6,417 beneficiaries received the first and second-cycle grants in the West Mamprusi Municipality.

According to the West Mamprusi Municipal Social Welfare and Community Development Director, Alhaji Abdul-Wahabu Ibrahim, an amount of GHC1,815,176 was paid to the beneficiaries across the municipality.

The grant has increased by 100%.

On her media tour, the minister inspected a 6km road under construction from Demia to Guabulga.
According to the site engineer, the project which costs GHC162 million is 60% complete.

The gender minister with her entourage including MCE also commissioned electricity at Boayini, inspected the Shelvoya-Kparigu road, Kparigu-Gbani road, Takorayiri-Bugya road, Walewale-Bugya road, Walewale town roads (9.45km), a modern police post and accommodation at Guabuliga, a modern police post and accommodation at Janga, and a yet-to-be commissioned pediatric ward and female ward constructed by the Ghana Gas Company Limited.

The minister said: “Those who know Shevoya road will testify that it is in good shape. You couldn’t have come this far … now, it is motorable. It was a very bad road.”

The Shevoya road is an economic road that links many major roads including the Eastern Corridor Road to the Northern parts of the country where farmers transport farm produce to the market.
