George Quaye writes: Psalm Adjeteyfio goes home today and Ghana is quiet

George Quaye also known as Aboagye is unhappy over the seeming silence in the country over the final funeral rite of the veteran actor

George Quaye also known Aboagye in the famous “taxi driver” series has expressed surprised over the seeming silence of the country over the funeral of late veteran actor Psalm Adjeteyfio.

The veteran actor who died on 8 April, this year will be buried today after the final funeral rites at the forecourt of the Trade Fair in Osu.

Ahead of his burial, one of his colleague actors, George Quaye has written an open letter about his sudden demise.

Below is the full post on Facebook.

Dear Psalm,

Been hard trying to find the words to express exactly how I feel…

Truth is, I honestly don’t know how I feel.

Sometimes I remember the good times we shared on the set of the Taxi Driver series with the whole crew…I remember the behind-the-scenes convos, the brief moments we shared at the School of performing arts where you gave that breath-taking performance in Yaw Asare’s “Ananse in the land of the idiots” while you were a student there… I remember your great personality, great voice, flawless articulation in Ga and English, hilarious twi…these memories plus the fact that Ghana has lost a true gem make me sad…sometimes.

Then at other times I recall the tough times you had to go through. I recall how it got to a point many of us could hardly take your calls or respond to your texts because we either didn’t have, weren’t in a position to give or to be flatly honest, were just tired because we knew your potential and knew you had it all in your power to turn things around. Life…

Please don’t frown at those who hurled invectives at you. Sometimes, through some of your actions and utterances you arguably gave them reasons to. Sometimes, through some of your utterances you made us all look bad. But it’s all water under the bridge now. As Christ said on the cross, “it is finished”. I’m sure we’ve all learnt our lessons, be they bitter, sweet or remorseful.

The saddest part of it all is the fact that you embark on your final journey tomorrow and no one is even talking about it. It’s not on the blogs, it’s not in the news, it’s not on radio, it’s not on tv. A government delegation paid a visit to the family of the late Nana Ampadu who’s yet to be buried. You go home tomorrow and Ghana is silent! The legendary Psalm Adjeteyfio!

That’s how sad it is…

The end of a legend…

I pray at least the industry turns up tomorrow to pay our last respects.

I pray the event goes well and that despite everything, the name Psalm Adjeteyfio will not be forgotten too soon.

May the spirits receive you well and grant you rest.

If you left us with nothing at all, you left us with many lessons.

Thank you.

To those of us who will definitely join you on the other side someday, let’s chew on these words from Stewart Stafford…

“When your life flashes before your eyes at the end, make sure it’s a good movie you’re watching”
