GFA must apologise to Ghanaians for shambolic AFCON, says Kwasi Nyantakyi

Kwasi Nyantekyi said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) must take responsibility for the Black Stars shambolic performance at this year’s AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire

A former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantekyi has said the management of the country’s football association must apologise to Ghanaians for the abysmal performance of the Black Stars at the 2024 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Nyantakyi said “Ghana deserves the best so if we fall short, whoever played a role in that should apologise to the people.”

Speaking on GTV Sports Plus on Friday (26 January), he said “of course [the GFA must apologise] the national team doesn’t belong to the FA. The FA is just a trustee, an agent managing the national on behalf of the people of Ghana.

“So somehow if the management of the team did not live up to the desire that people expect then they have to come out and apologise to them [Ghanaians]. I’ve done it before even though in our case in 2012 we got to the semi-finals

Nyantakyi said the Ghana Football Association must take responsibility for the Black Stars shambolic performance at this year’s AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

“The pain is so much that we need to assuage the pain of the people by telling them they are sorry and being ready to make amends and move forward,” Nyantakyi said.

He is, however, calling on the GFA to put in place a five-year strategic plan to develop football in the country.

“We need a football strategic plan … and we need clear targets that we want to achieve,” Nyantakyi added.
