Ghanaian players abroad: Mixed weekend performances

Mohammed Kudus continued his impressive form for West Ham, despite the Hammers' disappointing 0-2 loss to Fulham

Ghanaian footballers plying their trade across Europe had a weekend of contrasting fortunes, with some shining brightly while others endured frustrating outings for their respective clubs.

Kudus Shines despite West Ham defeat

In the Premier League, Mohammed Kudus continued his impressive form for West Ham, despite the Hammers’ disappointing 0-2 loss to Fulham. The midfielder played the entire match, showcasing his strength in midfield duels (winning 10 out of 17) and creativity (making two key passes). However, his night was slightly tarnished by a high number of misplaced passes (16) and off-target shots (4).

Ayew and Williams struggle

Crystal Palace’s Ghanaian contingent, Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp, saw limited action coming on as substitutes in their 1-0 win over Liverpool. While Ayew managed just one successful dribble out of four attempts, Schlupp lost possession on four occasions in his brief 13-minute cameo.

Athletic Bilbao’s Iñaki Williams also endured a frustrating game, drawing a yellow card for three fouls and losing most of his ground duels (4 out of 5). His attacking contributions were similarly muted, with all four crosses failing to find a teammate and only one off-target shot.

Defensive stars hold firm

Elsewhere, defender Abdul Mumin (Rayo Vallecano) and defensive midfielder Iddrisu Baba (UD Almería) provided solidity at the back for their respective teams. Mumin, despite conceding a yellow card and committing two fouls, made several key defensive contributions, including four clearances and winning six aerial duels. Baba impressed with perfect passing accuracy (100%) in his 16-minute cameo, adding a tackle and winning a ground and aerial duel each.

Other Ghanaians abroad:

  • Thomas Partey (Arsenal) remained an unused substitute in their 0-2 defeat to Aston Villa.
  • Emmanuel Gyasi (Empoli) played the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 loss to U.S. Lecce.
  • Ibrahim Sulemana (Cagliari) put in a decent shift for his side in their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan, boasting a 94% pass accuracy.
  • Alidu Seidu (Stade Rennais) remained on the bench as his team lost 2-1 to Toulouse.
  • Andre Ayew (Le Havre) played most of the game but saw his team lose 1-0 to FC Nantes, missing a big chance despite his high pass accuracy (94%).
