A youth group, Mamprugu Zaabuni Youth for Development in the North East Region, has made a passionate appeal to the Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to facilitate the completion of the Mishio-Wuyima bridge, which links the Mamprugu Moaduri District and the West Mamprusi District, respectively.
The 310-meter-long bridge, along with the 9.5-kilometer road started in 2021 and was expected to have been completed in early 2023.
On 11 June 2022, the vice-president assured commuters of the completion of the project, which he said, when completed, would be the easiest route linking the two districts with just a 40-minute drive instead of the three and a half-hour drive through the Kpasenkpe Bridge or more than that through Bolgatanga to the Mamprugu Moaduri District.
However, the construction of the bridge has stalled and the Mamprugu Zaabuni Youth for Development is now appealing to the vice-president to come to their aid by ensuring the completion of the project to reduce the stress of the commuters.
The president of the Mamprugu Zaabuni Youth for Development, Musah Abdul-Basit, made this passionate appeal at their first annual congress in Walewale.
He said, “We saw the construction of the Mishio bridge, which is currently ongoing. I want to plead with His Excellency Vice-President to ensure that work on that bridge starts again as the contractor is out of site.”
He also urged the vice-president to see to the completion of several other projects that are currently abandoned in the region to ensure their continuation.
However, the Vice President Bawumia, who also graced the occasion and was responding to the plea of the youth group, said the contractor would return to the site in two weeks.
“The Mishio Bridge, the contractor, I think, will come back within the next two weeks, and the bridge will be completed for all of us to see what has not happened since independence.”
“No government has come to construct this Mishio bridge. This is the first time that the government has said it will construct it and God willing, we will construct it. We are almost more than 50 percent done. When the contractor comes back, they will finish the work and going to Yagaba will now be easy,” Dr. Bawumia assured the people.
The theme for the association’s first annual congress was “Rekindling the Glory of Mamprugu: Our Collective Responsibility.”
Meanwhile, the youth group said they will rally their support for the vice-president to win the 2024 general elections by all means.
