GIJ, GIL and NAFTI merge to become UniMAC 

A ceremony was held on Monday (19 December) at the North Dzorwulu campus of GIJ to unveil the new logo of UniMAC

The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) and the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) have merged into the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC).

A ceremony was held on Monday (19 December) at the North Dzorwulu campus of GIJ to unveil the new logo of UniMAC.

Prof Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo who happens to be the rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor for UniMAC.

Other members of the team include Janetta Sika Akoto as the acting registrar, Francis Obeng as the acting director of finance, Eric Opoku Mensah, acting rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Samuel A. Nai, rector of the National Film and Television Institute, and Sampson Fenuku as the acting rector of the Ghana Institute of Languages.

According to the interim council of the University of Media, Arts and Communication, the North Dzorwulu campus of GIJ shall be the physical location and address of UniMAC.

The University of Media, Arts, and Communication has therefore become the first public university established by the Act of Parliament (Act 1059), which merged GIJ, GIL, and NAFTI.

The merger exercise started in 2019. The university received presidential assent in May 2022.
