Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2023: Asaase Radio’s King Lagazee nominated for Best Reggae DJ of the Year award
The host of Yaad Settingz on Asaase 99.5, Accra says the nomination signifies the hard work he has put into his craft over the years
King Lagazee, the award-winning radio personality and host of Yaad Settingz on Asaase 99.5 Accra, has been nominated for the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2023 in the category of Best Reggae/Dancehall DJ of the Year.
Speaking to Asaase News on the nomination, Lagazee said, “It feels good to be recognised as a top-tier selector of reggae/dancehall who has been pushing the genre for years and bridging the gap between Ghana and the world.”
King Lagazee is the first Ghanaian Reggae dancehall selector to be featured on the selectors choice mixtape showcase. “What I am doing is sound system culture, bringing reggae/dancehall, the artists, and sound systems directly to my listeners.”
“This type of show is the first of its kind in Ghana, and, as a matter of fact, in Africa. We don’t do politics of insult but we rather let the music do the talking.”
“Winning this award will signify the hard work we put into our craft and we’ll tell the masses to keep supporting us because without them we’ll not exist, and my fellow radio professionals should stay away from politics of insult,” King Lagazee noted.
The host of Asaase Yaad Settingz has been in the reggae dancehall and sound system culture space for over two decades and still counting, “and that one alone motivates me to push hard; seeing artists like Stonebwoy, Shata Wale, etc. rise to the occasion as A-list artists also inspires me.”
“Because we have been part of their struggles from day one, it is so inspiring to see your products blow,” he added.
“And also, I will be on tour with Lagazee Sound Int’l, which is the best dubplate sound system in Ghana.”
