Janga SHTS appeal for government support

Officials say the school has no functioning toilets, washrooms, dormitories for both genders, water, teachers' housing, or a phone network

The authorities of Janga Senior High Technical School in the North East Region’s West Mamprusi Municipality are appealing to the government, NGOs, companies, and philanthropists to assist the school with water, dormitory, and sanitation facilities, as well as a network booster, to enable the school to function effectively.

Officials say the school has no functioning toilets, washrooms, dormitories for both genders, water, teachers’ housing, or a phone network.

The 12-unit classroom block was commissioned by the Member of Parliament and the deputy minister for children and social protection, the Municipal Chief Executive, and their entourage as the students were in the interim using the Janga Nuru E/A Primary School for classes.

Before accessing potable water, the students will have to walk for four kilometres from the school to the Janga community.

This triggered the headmaster of the school Salifu Dammah and the MP for Walewale constituency, Hajia Lariba Abudu Zuwera who doubles as the deputy Minister of Children and Social Protection to appeal to the government and other benevolent organizations to help the newly commissioned school with water, dormitories, and a network booster to facilitate academic activities.

“This campus is faced with a lot of challenges including inadequate accommodation for teachers, inadequate infrastructure, lack of accommodation for students, lack of water systems, lack of classroom furniture, and lack of sanitation facilities. We would therefore appreciate it if the appropriate authorities could come to our aid and enable us to function effectively as a school,” Salifu Dammah, the headmaster of the school appealed.

The MP, Hajia Lariba Abudu also added that a proposal was sent to the communication Ministry to work on the poor nature of the network in the area and also appealed to the government and NGOs to support the school with the needed facilities including water to facilitate teaching and learning.

The school currently has 19 permanent teaching staff with about 300 students and has registered over 50 Students to seat for the 2022 WASSCE examination.
