Kevin-Annan: Ghanaian celebrities not setting good example

The lifestyle coach wants celebrities in the country to act responsibly as role models to the youth in Ghana

A life coach, Amos Kevin-Annan, has said most Ghanaian celebrities have not been a good example in terms of character moulding for the youth on social media.

Speaking on the maiden edition of Lifestyle ABC on Asaase Radio with Jackie Ankrah, Kevin-Annan said: “The young people we can’t reject it, they are becoming digital natives so they want to fit into the native, so what has been the regular shows of value attitudes and conduct on the platform.

“And this is where I fault celebrities, a lot of them have not been a good example on social media, either it is the way they dress, talk, the way they handle themselves, their portrayal of money and its use, wealth and its acquisition.”

He added: “How they get into banter with each other and then also the subtle promotion of promiscuous lifestyle, so there is the need for our celebrities to act a bit more responsibly in the way they portray themselves.”

Kevin-Annan called on celebrities to act more responsibly as role models “because a lot of the young people have picked them as surrogate parents, so they are now learning how to relate to others through what celebrity models exhibit, whether they are movie makers, musicians, media icons, sports personalities etc.”

He further called on parents to go beyond the provision of the primary needs of their children and invest quality time in their upbringing.

“Each parent must also try to develop a plan that will be unique for their home culture, if your children are within the home you must discuss with them the amount they spend on social media.”
