Kwabre East: Abereade residents seek police protection to curb incessant robberies

Benjamin Darlington Kamkam, the assembly member of the Abereade electoral area, expressed deep concern over the escalating incidences of robberies in the community

Residents of Abereade in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region are urging heightened police presence to tackle security challenges in the area.

This call to action comes after a suspected thief was fatally beaten by angry youths early Wednesday (3 April).  The deceased was discovered with stab wounds and blood-soaked clothes around 2.30am, prompting a police response. He was however pronounced dead at the scene.

Benjamin Darlington Kamkam, the Assembly member of the Abereade electoral area, expressed deep concern over the escalating incidences of robberies in the community.

He emphasised the significant losses in property and other valuables due to these crimes, urging for immediate and robust security measures.

“In recent times, we have experienced a surge in robberies here in Abereade, which is both alarming and distressing. Residents have voiced their concerns, and I have personally reached out to the police commander requesting the deployment of a patrol team,” Kamkam stated.

“We intend to establish a neighbourhood watchdog committee to flush out these miscreants and I urge residents to support this cause. Now we appear overwhelmed with the situation, and this is the time we need the police”, he added.

One resident shared his harrowing experience of being attacked by armed robbers for the fifth time, instilling fear and panic in his household. He recounted how thieves recently broke into a neighbour’s house, stealing a substantial number of belongings.

“It was a nasty scene. The robbers stormed my apartment and robbed me at gunpoint. I was just saved by grace and so to see this suspect lying on the ground means the security agencies must intensify their operations here. It is very disturbing”, he said.
