Kwesi Botchwey to be buried 22 December

Professor Kwesi Botchwey passed away after a short illness on 19 November 2022 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

A delegation representing the family of the minister of finance and economic planning under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government Professor Kwesi Botchwey has officially informed the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, about his final funeral rites.

Professor Botchwey passed away on 19 November 2022 after a short illness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he was receiving treatment.

According to the head of the family representatives, the burial service for the former minister will take place on Thursday 22 December 2022 on the forecourt of State House in Accra.

The representatives, led by Professor Kojo Yankah, told the Speaker that the funeral rites are in line with the way the late professor wished to organise his final burial schedules.

Speaker Bagbin praised the late professor as a distinguished statesman and an astute lawyer. He eulogised him as a man of humanity and a true Ghanaian. The Speaker assured the family of his support.

Botchwey was appointed by President Jerry John Rawlings (also now deceased) to assist in stabilising Ghana’s economy between 1982 and1995.

Before his demise, he was a key member of the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress, having played an integral role in the evolution of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) into the NDC.
