Leaked audio: Lawyer for IGP objects to presence of three police officers at committee hearing

The parliamentary committee is investigating a leaked tape concerning discussions about the possible removal of the IGP by three police officers and the former northern regional chairman of NPP Daniel Bugri Naabu

Counsel for the Inspector General of Police, Kwame Gyan has objected to the presence of the three police officers captured in the leaked audio recording on the alleged plot to remove the IGP George Akuffo Dampare.

The IGP’s counsel is also asking the parliamentary committee to limit their interrogation to the leaked audio tape officially before it and not the alleged fresh evidence presented to the committee unless otherwise furnished to his team.

“What we are saying is that, it is unfair, unjust, inequitable for the witnesses who spoke in our absence to come and sit in when we have to speak.”

“We believe in consistency of treatment. The same way that we sat outside they should also sit outside… we very strongly object the presence of the three police officers and the civilian. We think it’s unfair, unjust, inequitable and unconstitutional,” Gyan said.

But the chairman of the committee, Atta Akyea overruled the preliminary objection raised by the counsel for the IGP.

He said the committee has not short-changed the IGP in anyway.
