Life Dream Pharmacy closed down for administering wrong treatment to rabies patient leading to his death

The Ashanti Regional director of the Pharmacy Council Benjamin Frimpong Kwarteng said the pharmacy will be sanctioned if they are found culpable after its investigation

The Pharmacy Council has closed down Life Dream Pharmacy for administering wrong treatment to a 5-year-old rabies patient leading to his death at Kenyasi-Adwumam, in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (10 July), Ashanti Regional director of the Pharmacy Council Benjamin Frempong Kwarteng said the Pharmacy will be sanctioned if they are found culpable after its investigation.

“”A 5-year-old child accompanied by his parents reported to the facility after having been bitten by a rabid dog and there was an attendant on the premises, and the attendant proceeded to administer ATS injection and gave a pain relief, an immune booster and other drugs.

“And advised the caregivers that all the necessary interventions had been taken, so they can go home and be rest assured that everything is sorted out, but just after a month and three days, the child passed on.”

“So when we received the letter on 5 July, 2023, we visited the premises with our monitoring tools and what we witnessed on the premises was really bad…we cannot allow it so we had to close down the facility,” Kwarteng said.
