Machine operator remanded for threatening to kill chief of Himan

Kwabena Ankemah, has been remanded for threatening to kill Nana Nteboah Prah IV

A 39-year-old machine operator, Kwabena Ankemah, has been remanded for threatening to kill Nana Nteboah Prah IV.

The complainant, Nana Nteboah Prah IV, is the divisional chief of the Himan Traditional Council.

The suspect, who is alleged to have issued the threat – through audio – has appeared before the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

Ankemah has been charged with threat of death but has pleaded not guilty.

Hathie Ama Manu, who presided over the court, has remanded Ankemah into prison custody to re-appear on 4 May 4. The prosecutor, Juliana Essel-Dadzie, told the court that the complainant is the divisional chief of Himan Traditional Council, while the accused is a staff of Sankofa Mining Company.

Essel-Dadzie said the suspect and complainant both reside at Himan-Prestea in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

She stated that on 28 March, around 4:19pm, the complainant received a WhatsApp voice note from the accused, threatening to behead him with a cutlass anywhere he meets him.

The prosecutor said Ankemah reiterated in the audio that he meant every word and would not relent on his intended actions. She added that Ankemah said he was not afraid of being arrested by the police.

Essel-Dadzie said the complainant reported the case to the Prestea police on 30 March for investigation because he was alarmed after listening to the audio.

The police arrested the accused person on the same day for questioning. A search was conducted in his room, which led to the recovery of a new hammer and a chisel.

The prosecutor said the audio recording has been transcribed onto a USB flash drive to serve as evidence.

The accused person, in his caution statement, initially denied any knowledge of the audio. However, he later confessed before an independent witness that he did the recording at a drinking spot at Ankobra, a suburb of Prestea.
