Matron arrested for allegedly stealing foodstuffs meant for students

Mark Oduro, the assembly man, said his investigations showed that Delarko stole the foodstuffs roughly twice every week

Cynthia Delarko, a matron at Asukawkaw Senior High School in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, has been arrested for allegedly stealing foodstuffs meant for students.

The assembly man for the area, Mark Oduro, in an interview with Asaase News, said he had received many reports of theft by the matron.

He said his investigations showed that Delarko stole the foodstuffs roughly twice every week. She is alleged to have contracted some drivers who pick up and drop off the goods in Hohoe.

Oduro said the matron has been handed over to the Katanga Police for further investigation.

The food items are said to include bags of rice and beans, canned tomatoes (large and small tins) and a gallon of vegetable oil.

Oduro said Delarko’s action undermines the government’s Free SHS Policy.

The headmaster of the school, John Sitsofe Nukunu, declined an interview with Asaase Radio’s Oti regional correspondent.

The Katanga police commander, Kennedy Frimpong, confirmed the arrest, saying the police have commenced investigations.
