Meet Lyte, one of Ghana’s fast rising artists

Speaking on Asaase News the young rapper said, "You lose nothing when you throw some lamplight on an upcoming artist, but I also think you don’t necessarily need a cosign to make a name for yourself"

One of Ghana’s fast-rising rappers, Gerald Adu-Gyamfi popularly known as Lyte has advised industry players to promote upcoming artists because that there is room and food for everybody in the music industry.

Speaking on Asaase News the young rapper said, “You lose nothing when you throw some lamplight on an upcoming artist, but I also think you don’t necessarily need a cosign to make a name for yourself.”

Lyte however said that the music industry is treating him fairly well.

“So far so good, I haven’t had a door close in front of me yet. And I trust it won’t happen, just some players trying to patronise what I’m on ,but I’m too locked in to be moved by it.”

About Lyte

According to the rapper, although he has a soft voice he has always aspired to be  a rapper “I loved music since childhood even though I had a soft voice for rap then, but I started writing in 2019 after I heard a hip hop tune done by street 20.”

He added: “I was singing along, I initially thought no one would or could ever dare to do that kind of hip hop tune because it wasn’t something Ghanaians really did at that time, so it just motivated me in a way, and I linked up with them months later and did my first recording.”

He however expressed that one of the most memorable times in his career was when a friend learned the full lyrics to his songs.

“It’s weird and not really a type of thing I will do but I was crushing on a certain girl and will most of the time stalk her Instagram profile. She was an old friend though, she reached out to me after I released my music and was like ‘Gerald I heard your music on one of my friends phone and I loved it, I can sing it word for word right now, I am really proud of you and I love what you doing ‘that’s what she said.”

Lyte advised young talents to chase their dreams, “Your dreams are either chasing you or you are chasing them, and to be honest you won’t like the feeling when your dream chases you because it haunts you when you are not chasing them,” he said.

Check out ‘Count it’ by Lyte on all streaming platforms.

“My sound is different and will continue to be different, because I want to stand out from the crowd, and my biggest aspiration is to land a Grammy Award for myself and my country and my loyal fans and family.”
