MoMo agents to members: Pass on 10% tax to consumers

The MoMo agents say the newly introduced 10% tax will collapse their businesses hence the need to pass it to the consumers

The Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAG) has directed its members to pass on the cost of the newly introduced 10% tax on their operations to consumers.

A statement issued by the association and signed by its general secretary, Evans P.K Otumfuo said it cannot cooperate with the government’s directive to Telco’s to deduct 10% from their cash out service wallet.

“The union cannot cooperate with this directive given to Telco’s by the government to deduct 10% extra from our cash-out service wallet,” the statement said.

The MMGA said since the government has not heeded their concerns, they will pass all the costs onto their customers.

“Management is by this statement informing all MoMo agents to transfer the cost to the customer. It is not in our interest to get to this point, but there is no room for options, hence our action,” the statement added.

“The new pricing will be out by Monday 28 June 2021.”

“No business can survive in such an environment…There is no business in Ghana that is made to pay nine different taxes, only a small business like MoMo aside our operational cost…. ”
