The Ghana high commissioner to the United Kingdom, Papa Owusu-Ankomah has urged Ghanaians to look into the future with the hope to attract the right investments into the country.
He said the government needs the support of Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora to put the country back on the path of economic recovery.
The high commissioner to the UK was speaking on Tuesday (6 June) at this year’s Ghana Investment and Opportunities Summit (GHIOS) in London, United Kingdom.
The summit is being organised by the Ghana High Commission, UK in partnership with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).
In his opening remarks, Owusu-Ankomah said: “At this event we hope to discuss how to marshal how both human and material resources to support the government’s efforts to resuscitate the Ghanaian economy post-COVID…I have no doubt that with the efforts being made by the Government of Ghana with the support of its citizens, Ghana will be on the path of economic recovery leading to a prosperous future.”
“In the effort to get our economy which in the past few years was one of the fastest growing in the world back on track, we’ll definitely rely on some of the ideals and suggests which may be proffered during the course of this summit,” he added.
“Having regard to the global economic downturn, it is appropriate that at this year’s summit’s discussions will focus on some key areas including finance, banking, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and energy.”
Owusu-Ankomah also urged participants at the summit to look closely at Ghana as a good place of doing business as it is the gateway to Africa.
“The theme for the summit: ‘Post-COVID recovery, Opportunities for the Investor’ indicates that even with our economic challenges as a nation, there are still many opportunities for the investor in Ghana. I, therefore urge all participants to look closely to Ghana as a good place of doing business and deploy the requisite technology and modern digital approaches that will help partner Ghanaian businesses for a win-win outcome.”
“To our compatriots in the diaspora, I urge you to use your very networks, especially in the United Kingdom to garner home the appropriate skill set for national development. We should look into the future with hope as we continue to attract investment into Ghana to complement the government’s efforts,” he added.
The Ghana Investment and Opportunities Summit, which is the third in the series, is aimed at bringing together delegates from the international investor community, venture capitalists and private equity fund managers amongst others for in-depth discussions and the exploration of viable bankable investment opportunities within various sectors of the Ghanaian economy as well as matching local businesses with international partners.
The third edition of the GHIOS is expected to attract over eight hundred delegates, two hundred corporate industry captains, about forty speakers, and over a hundred million deals to be sealed amongst business-to-business sessions.
The summit seeks to target international investors, various corporate organisations, government institutions as well as the general public in Ghana and Europe and the diaspora.
