NDC to outdoor running mate 18 April, she starts campaign in Central Region

Two days after the outdooring, NDC's Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will start her national campaign tour with a visit to the Central Region

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), barring any last-minute changes, will outdoor its vice presidential running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday, 18 April 2024, Asaase News has gathered.

Two days after the outdooring, Saturday, 20 April 2024, Asaase News sources who are close to Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s campaign office indicate that she will start her national campaign tour with a visit to the Central Region, which is her home region.

In the 2020 general elections, even though the NDC won 13 out of the 23 parliamentary seats in the Central Region, which constituted the majority of seats in the region, compared with NPP’s 10 seats, the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama still trailed President Akufo-Addo in the presidential race. President Akufo-Addo secured 602,111 valid voted cast, representing 52.71% and John Mahama polled 524,038 valid votes representing 45.87%.

Political strategists and commentators believe that the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, renominated Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang because the party is determined to change the 2020 Central Region narrative.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its presidential candidate, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, are yet to name their vice presidential running mate for the 2024 general elections which is some 8 months away.

Political watchers and analysts indicate that with NPP putting pressure on itself to limit its choice of running mate to partner Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from the Ashanti Region, the NDC is determined to build on the gains it made in the Central Region in 2020 general elections into to change their political fortune in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
