The National Labour Commission (NLC) has accused the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) of bad faith after it declared an indefinite strike on Wednesday over salary concerns.
According to NLC, JUSAG refused to attend a meeting with the employment ministry and other parties that was meant to discuss their concerns on the implementation of reviewed salaries.
The NLC said that JUSAG pulled out of the meeting on Tuesday after it said its legal counsel was unavailable but went ahead to declare an indefinite strike.
JUSAG, which had earlier given the government a five-day ultimatum to resolve their concerns, have laid down their tools.
Reacting to the development on the Asaase Breakfast Show, the executive secretary of the NLC, Ofosu Asamoah said JUSAG has not been cooperative.
“We ask our officer to check, they said no they were not ready because their lawyer was not in and the commission said no, they have to come in, they went back again … only for them to go and declare a strike,” Asamoah said.
“And notice is served presidency and the ministry to act within two weeks and report to the commission, so that if they were patient yesterday for all others to join and the report is subsequently made to the commission.
“If they are unable to settle that within two weeks, the commission will procced to hear the matter and make a determination. Unfortunately, you have pleaded with the commission to stand the case while you wait for your legal counsel, then you walk off to declare a strike,” Asamoah said.
