North East Region: Locals burn police checkpoint

Locals in Karimenga, a farming community in the North East Region, have set a police checkpoint ablaze over what they described as an unlawful shooting and injuring of an innocent female civilian.

Reports said the female pillion passenger was shot at on Tuesday (17 May) evening when the motorcyclist ignored a police signal to stop at the checkpoint.

Relatives told Asaase News that the passenger sustained injury on the butt and currently receiving treatment at a medical centre.

The local police spokesperson ASP David Fianko-Okyere told Asaase News that his office is yet to be fully briefed about the incident.
