NPP primaries: Vetting of aspirants has been smooth so far, says Nimako

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold elections for constituencies where it has sitting MPs on 27 January 2024.

Evans Nimako, the director of elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the ongoingĀ vettingĀ of parliamentary aspirants in constituencies with incumbent Members of Parliament across the country by the party as largely successful.

The vetting which began on Wednesday (3 January) is expected to Friday (5 January). The NPP has set 27 January 2024, for the parliamentary primariesĀ of the party.

Speaking to Benjamin Offei-Addo on theĀ Asaase Breakfast ShowĀ on Friday (5 January), Nimako said “It has been very smooth, not too much of issues have come up.”

“We are looking at constituencies numbering 134, you know we have 137 constituencies where we have sitting members of Parliament but 3 of them are not participating…” he said.

“We have 23 of the applicants going unopposed … and we expect that at the end of today’s exercise, the committees will submit their report by Monday and if there are any issues that require further interrogation, the national parliamentary appeals committee is available to receive such issues for redress,” Nimako added.

Sanctions

Reacting to reports of attack and vandalisation of property at the party’s office in Bimbilla following the disqualification of Alhaji Razak, Nimako said the culprits will be sanctioned in line with the rules of the party.

“Those who have attacked the party’s office will have to face the law, prospective candidates must know how to seek redress for their concerns,” he said.

“The gentleman in question will have to go through other engagements with the party to ascertain the full development, and as we speak the responsibility lies with the vetting committee to furnish the party with the details,” Nimako added.
