Oti Region: Nkwanta South District wins inter-district cross-country race

The competition was organised to select athletes to represent the region at the national cross-country competition in Savelugu in the Northern Region on Saturday 25 February 2023

The National Sports Authority-Oti Region (NSA-Oti) on Saturday (11 February) organised its annual sports competition in Kete Krachi in the Krachi West Municipality.

The competition was organised to select athletes to represent the region at the national cross-country competition in Savelugu in the Northern Region on Saturday 25 February 2023.

Twenty athletes (10 men and 10 women) were selected to represent the region.

Five out of the nine districts in the region participated in the competition. Athletes from the Nkwanta South district came first in the competition. Jonas Nasalen and Diana Kateche won the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Gideon Wulenbi and Ones Dimbu, both from Krachi Nchumuru, came second and third in the men’s category respectively. In the women’s category, Millicent Adekpe from Krachi West and Benedicta Tamanja from Krachi Nchumuru came second and third respectively.

The director of the NSA-Oti, Joyce Datse, expressed dissatisfaction with the participation of 5 out of the 9 districts. She said the 4 districts which did not participate complained about financial constraints, adding that that should not be the case.

She urged them to prepare in advance for the next annual event. She appealed to individual donors and the general public to sponsor the selected athletes with food and cash to encourage them to give their best in the national competition.

The Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu, congratulated the selected athletes and encouraged them to train hard for the national competition.
