Oti Region: Residents demonstrate over power outages

The majority of the people in Krachi West, one of the fastest-growing towns in the area, work in a variety of businesses that mostly rely on the utilisation of power.

Residents in the Oti Region on Thursday (21 July) demonstrated against Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) over intermitted power outages in that part of the country.

They took to the streets to express their displeasure over poor power supply from the power distributing firm.

The residents say they have endured these outages for many years and are pleading with the government to help address the ongoing power outages.

They say the power outages have caused the closure of numerous businesses in the region.

The demonstration started from Krachi GBC Radio junction in Gyenekrom, through some principal streets in the community and ended at the municipal assembly where the protesters presented a petition to the MCE.

Presenting the petition, the youth president Benjamin Ntoso, said the situation has collapsed their enterprises in the municipality.

The MCE for Krachi West, Emmanuel Kajal Jalula, thanked the protesters for demonstrating peacefully.

He pledged his support to make sure the petition and the cry of the residents and business owners reach the Office of the President and the management of Volta river Authority for the necessary actions to be taken.

According to him, the situation is not new to him, therefore, will do everything possible to ensure it becomes a thing of the past.
