Otumfuo@25: Asantehene has contributed significantly to peace and democracy in Ghana, says Ababio

26 April marks exactly 25 years since Otumfuo Osei Tutu II held onto the sword and swore oath of allegiance before the Golden Stool to remain firm and truthful

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has contributed significantly to peace, stability and growth of Ghana’s democracy over the past 25-years, Kwame Owusu Ababio, head of stakeholder relations for the Otumfuo Foundation has said.

26 April marks exactly 25 years since Otumfuo Osei Tutu II held onto the sword and swore oath of allegiance before the Golden Stool to remain firm and truthful.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (26 April), Ababio said Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lived an impactful life since ascending the throne 25 years ago.

“The king has been very phenomenal in his reign over the past 25-years and his rule has not focused on only cultural and traditional issues alone but transcends beyond traditional and cultural issues to political areas, where he has been able to link up with various governments to broker peace for other ethnic groups.

“And also lead government delegations where it was needful to go out there and solicit for help for the people of Ghana. And he has also been associated with the peaceful co-existence among various political, religious and ethnic groups.”

“You recall that in 2012 when the political temperature was very high prior to the general election, he had the courage and goodwill to make the political candidates sign a peace accord. So these and other things have been the high point of his legacy,” he said.
