Police, Child Rights place GHC12,000 bounty on man taped abusing child

In a statement issued on Tuesday (4 October), the police said: "Efforts are underway to track down the individual involved, have him arrested and rescue the child"

The Ghana Police Service has offered a reward of GHC2,000 for credible information leading to the arrest of the suspects who subjected a child to severe beatings at a yet-to-be identified community.

“The police have sighted a horrifying video on social media in which a male adult is seen subjecting an infant to severe beating under a tree,” the police said in a statement on Tuesday (4 October).

“Efforts are underway to track down the individual involved, have him arrested and rescue the child.

“In view of the urgency associated with the matter, a reward of GHC2000 has been set aside for anyone who is able to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the individual and rescue the child,” the statement added.

The police said anyone with such information should contact them on 0243809991.

Also, a non-profit organisation Child Rights International has offered a reward of GHC10,000 in addition to what the police announced earlier to arrest the culprits.

“In support of the Ghana Police Service’s effort to locate the individual, Child Rights International, through the office of the executive director, is publicly staking a reward claim of GHC10,000 to any individual who will be able to provide details that will lead to the location of the individual in question, the person that recorded the video and the individual seated watching the scene unfold,” the CRI said in a statement.

“The reward will be provided after such claims have been substantiated and verified by the Police and/or Social Welfare Department as true. Acts of such nature unfortunately are not absent in our society. Numerous children across the country face such abuse daily.

“This video is a clear indication of a dent in child protection efforts in the country and must be tackled with all seriousness and perpetrators of such acts must face the FULL RIGOR OF THE LAW,” the statement said
