Police withdraw application seeking to injunct “dumsor protest”

The police had earlier this week filed an application that sought to prohibit the holding of this event as led by actress Yvonne Nelson on 25 May

The Ghana Police Service has withdrawn an application to injunct a protest #DumsorMustStop, which was scheduled for Saturday, 25 May 2024, at the Revolution Square in Accra.

The service had earlier this week filed the application that sought to prohibit the holding of this event as led by actress Yvonne Nelson on the aforementioned date.

The application was filed at the  Accra High Court on Monday, 20 May 2024, seeking an order to prohibit the organisers from holding the protest.

The police raised concerns about the proposed venue, Revolution Square, citing its proximity to the Jubilee House, the seat of government, which is designated as a security zone.

Due to potential risks to public defence, order, and safety, the police recommended relocating the protest to the Independence Square.

On Friday (24 May), the court had to strike out the application after the applicant [the police] informed the court that it intended to withdraw the injunction.

It would be recalled that the Accra Regional Police Command invited actress Yvonne Nelson, Selorm Dramani Dzramado and Henry Osei Akoto for a meeting after it received a letter from the organisers to hold a protest against the government over the recent erratic power supply.
