Saddick Adams, other sports journalists to demonstrate against GFA

The primary focus of their protest is to address the alarming decline in the standards of football in Ghana and advocate for much-needed reforms

Prominent sports journalist, Saddick Adams, along with other influential  sports journalists, including Veronica Commey and Patrick Osei Agyemang, has actively secured official permission from the Ghana Police Service to organise a demonstration against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS).

The primary focus of their protest is to address the alarming decline in the standards of football in Ghana and advocate for much-needed reforms.

Adams, a key figure in this movement, declared during an interview on the Big Bulletin  on Thursday (1 February) that their commitment to revitalising Ghanaian football is unwavering.

He emphasised the need for continuous efforts to achieve excellence, stating, “We have to continuously strive for the best, so until we attain the highest level for our game, we are not going to stop talking about it, protesting about it, trying to fix it, proposing ideas.”

Reflecting on past attempts at reform, Adams acknowledged the impact of investigative efforts such as those by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

He noted areas that were improved but also highlighted missed opportunities and lessons that remain unlearned.

Adams expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming protest, stating, “We are very confident that with this protest, there has never been a national protest of this nature about football, and then people understand that our passion for the nation is dying and we have to come on board. So we will keep on doing this until the needed reforms are done.”

The demonstration is scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, on 14February 2024. This protest follows Ghana’s recent disappointment in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the national team, the Black Stars, experienced their second Group Stage exit.

The first occurred in 2021, when they managed only one point in three games, marking Ghana’s worst performance in the competition.

The ongoing edition in Cote d’Ivoire witnessed a similar outcome, with the Black Stars failing to secure a victory in three outings, prompting heightened concerns about the state of Ghanaian football.
