Sammy Crabbe proposes establishment of insurance firm for NPP members

Crabbe believes this could help the party raise substantial revenue to support its activities as well as support the grassroots

Sammy Crabbe, a national chairman candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), is proposing the establishment of an insurance firm that could help strengthen the finances of party members.

Crabbe believes this could help the party raise substantial revenue to support its activities as well as support the grassroots.

Speaking with Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (11 July), Crabbe said, “I have been advocating that we use our brand to establish an insurance company, like Patriotic Insurance.”

“Because we have supporters out there, just as the Methodist Church has Donewell Insurance and the Catholic Church has Quality Insurance … the African National Party in South Africa owns an insurance company,” he said.

Crabbe added “And I believe every true blue NPP person will insure his or her vehicle with Patriotic Insurance. Can you imagine how much money we could rake in? It doesn’t matter whether we are in power or not and this is sustainable.”

He is promising to recognise persons who contribute to the success of the party if given the nod.

“My message is simple; political parties are formed to win elections and the power attained is to be utilised for national development. The people who work hard to achieve this aim must be recognised.”

“I have every intention of ensuring that those who contribute to the success of the party are recognised and given opportunities deserving them,” Crabbe said.

Ayikoi Otoo, three others withdraw from NPP polls

Nii Ayikoi Otoo, a national chairman aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has withdrawn from the contest with barely two weeks to the polls.

Three other prospective candidates – Dr Kwame Afriyie, a national organiser aspirant; Akosua Serwaa Bonsu, an aspirant for national women’s organiser; and Tumfuor Klinsman Karikari, an aspirant for national youth organiser – have also withdrawn from the race.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Wednesday (6 July 2022), the chairman of the NPP’s national elections committee, Peter Mac Manu, said: “As a result of the diligence of the national election committee and the preparedness of the prospective aspirants, no appeals against the nomination of any prospective aspirant were recorded.

He said the national appeals committee, led by Dan Botwe, had scheduled 24-25 June for the hearing of appeals, but he noted: “In effect, there were no appeals.”

He added: “Honourable Ayikoi Otoo, who was vying for the national chairmanship position of the party, has … since withdrawn from the race … after vetting …” Mac Manu said.
