With just five weeks to the 7 December polls, the top Ghanaian music stars Samini, Sarkodie and Kuami Eugene have endorsed Nana Akufo-Addo

The Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini and the rapper Sarkodie have endorsed President Akufo-Addo for a second term in office in the lead-up to the 2020 elections.

Leading in a pandemic

On Twitter, the “My Own” hitmaker said that Akufo-Addo has been exceptional among his peers in the fight against COVID-19.

“These are challenging times for the world. My Voice, My Vote will support Leadership that has empathy and serves to create a hopeful future for the next generation #kpoyaka,” his post read.

Samini accompanied his post with a photo of schoolchildren touting Akufo-Addo’s Free Senior High School flagship programme. According to the artist, Akufo-Addo’s leadership carries a “hopeful” future for Ghana.

In a subsequent post, the entertainer shared a creative campaign clip featuring snaps from the president’s childhood, political journey and civil rights struggles, his eventual rise to political leadership, and the accomplishments of his presidency.

“Nana, toaso”

For his part, the multiple-award-winning rapper Sarkodie has added his star-power to the Akufo-Addo campaign.

In his latest song, “Happy Day”, Sarkodie endorses Akufo-Addo’s second- term bid.

The song, featuring the VGMA 2020 Artiste of the Year, Kuami Eugene, was released on Monday (2 November 2020).

In the song, Sarkodie thanks God for his life and explains why he took a swipe at the then John Mahama-led government over the energy (dumsor) crisis, among other matters.

In the song, which is already making waves on radio, he urges: “Nana, toaso” (“Nana, continue”).

Other musicians have also publicly backed Akufo-Addos candidacy. They include the Ghanaian gospel ministers Diana Asamoah, Empress Gifty and Kwadwo Ampong.
