A newly formed civil society organisation dubbed Aar Sunu Election Platform, which translates to “Let’s protect our election” in the Senegalese Wolof language, is pushing for the 3 March for the presidential election.
The organization protested against President Macky Sall’s election postponement on the 3 February. It consists of Sall’s opposition, religious groups and leaders, socio-professional organizations, and citizens who support the cause.
A spokesperson of the platform, Dr Abdoulaye Bousso, emphasised that they wanted to draw attention to the Head of State to the urgency of publishing the decree setting the date of the 2024 presidential election, taking into account the limits set by the Constitutional Council.
The Aar Sunu election platform plan to gather themselves this Saturday 24 February, to:
- Let the citizens have their say
- Organize a farewell party for Macky Sall to pressure him into stepping down as president in March
- Mobilise students and faculty in universities to have discussions on the way forward for Senegal
