Distress call

Asaase Radio’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Jonathan Ofori, told Asaase News that investigations have begun to establish the cause of the accident, which occurred on Sunday night.

Ofori reports that one victim who is in critical condition has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Others are receiving treatment at a medical facility in Offinso, also in the Ashanti Region.

Mamoah Elijah, the Offinso North district director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), confirmed the incident to Asaase News.

“Yesterday around 9pm I got a distress call from the district police commander after the accident and all security personnel that matter, including NADMO, were called to the scene where two lives were lost instantly,” Mamoah said.

“The Land Cruiser was coming from Jirapa in the Upper West and the SsangYong from the Offinso North District heading towards Akumadan.”

Accident-prone

He said the cause of the incident will be made known once investigations conclude.

According to him, one person was burned in the process, while the Land Cruiser in which the Spaniard was driving somersaulted and was completely mangled.

Mamoah said the bodies of those killed in the accident have since been deposited at the mortuary in Nkenkensu.
