Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong meets AfDB team

The AfDB team used the meeting to brief the Minister of Food and Agriculture on work done thus far after the Dakar II Summit on “Feed Africa”

In ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders to agree a clear purpose aimed at achieving accepted outcomes in the agricultural sector, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong on Friday (28 April 2023) hosted a mission team from the African Development Bank (AfDB) led by country programme officer, Eyerusalem Fasika.

The team used the opportunity to brief the new Minister of Agriculture on a draft Ghana Agriculture Sector Dialogue Mission on the aftermath of the Dakar II Summit on “Feed Africa”.

Heads of state on the African continent met at the action-driven Dakar II Summit to mobilise and align government resources, development partners and private sector financing to unleash Africa’s food production potential.

The AfDB reassured the ministry of its support towards the realisation of a compact that will meet Ghana’s food security needs.

At the meeting, Acheampong said his ministry is holding stakeholder/consultative workshops to share and discuss new pathways it is charting to harness the potential of the food and agricultural sector more effectively.

He explained that the move was to ensure sustainable national food security, self-sufficiency in the production of commodities and thriving agrobusiness, all with the aim of reducing the nation’s high import bill.

Dr Acheampong further emphasised that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) is repositioning itself to take charge and chart the way forward for agriculture in Ghana. Ultimately it is the core mandate of MoFA to harmonise the agricultural sector towards achieving a common objective.
