Agyekum Dwamena: Remuneration in public sector needs review

The head of the Civil Service's call comes exactly a week after the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) declared industrial action over the non-payment of neutrality allowance

Nana Kwasi Agyekum-Dwamena, head of the Civil Service of Ghana has called for an overhaul of the entire structure of remuneration in the public sector.

Agyekum-Dwamena’s call comes exactly a week after the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG)  declared industrial action over the non-payment of neutrality allowance.

Talking on Asaase Radio on Wednesday (27 April) Agyekum-Dwamena said “We need to look at the whole structure of remuneration and go back to basics and create a completely new structure that is sustainable,”

“At the time of initial negotiations, nobody had anticipated the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and that is where the issues have cropped up from.”

He added “this is because there has been the sense that changes in government has brought about biases in conditions of service based on party affiliation.”
