Ashanti Region: Police await AG’s advice in siblings’ death linked to bedbug pesticide

The victims were found unconscious after their uncle applied a fumigation tablet, known as 'bomb,' to disinfect the room against bedbugs

Police prosecutors have disclosed that they are awaiting advice from the Attorney General’s Office following the conclusion of investigations into the deaths of three siblings suspected to be caused by an insecticide used for bedbug control.

The victims were found unconscious after their uncle applied a fumigation tablet, known as ‘bomb,’ to disinfect the room against bedbugs.

The autopsy report on the cause of death has been obtained and the victims have already been buried. The case has been adjourned to 4 March 2024.

The uncle, Anthony Frans, was provisionally charged with murder and granted bail during the ongoing investigations.

But defence counsel, Evans Amankwaah, prayed for bail for him, during his last appearance.

He said his client deserved the right to be granted bail while investigations continue.

He insisted that the incident was pathetic and that the police should soften its stance against his client.

The accused was granted a GHC20,000 bail sum with two sureties.
