Backbiting in the music industry is bad, says Jupitar

The "Enemies" hitmaker has revealed that some industry insiders in Ghana had contacted the organisers of Sting Music Festival in Jamaica to remove him from the show

Ghanaian dancehall singer Michael Okine, better known as Jupitar, has been vocal about the “pull him down syndrome” in the Ghanaian music industry.

Jupitar is one of the headline acts for Sting Music Festival, making him the first Ghanaian artiste to perform at the longest-running stage show in Jamaica.

The “Enemies” hitmaker has revealed that some industry insiders in Ghana had contacted the organisers of Sting Music Festival to remove him from the show.

Speaking on Asaase 99.5 Accra‘s Yaad Settingz show, Jupitar said: “As I’m talking to you, there has been phone calls from different sides to the (organisers), telling them that I don’t deserve that stage.”

“But guess what, my name is still on the bill,” he added.

“My name is on the radios in Jamaica, people are playing jingles with Jupitar as part of the performance,” he told the award-winning host King Lagazee.

“This should be a happy moment for every dancehall artiste in Ghana and I am going to make history.”

The festival, which is expected to take place on 26 December 2022, at Plantation Cove in Ochio Rios, Jamaica will feature some of the world’s top dancehall and reggae stars entertaining thousands of fans.

The festival is a global music experience with participating artistes showcasing rhythms and also connecting with the thousands of fans. The show, which has been in existence for the past 30 years, has discovered great dancehall talents and given upcoming ones a chance to showcase their talent.
