Eight pupils drown in Volta Lake

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the deceased were among 20 pupils who were in the boat travelling from Atikagome to Wayokope

Eight school children have drowned in the Volta Lake following a boat disaster in the Sene East District of the Bono East Region.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the deceased were among 20 pupils who were in the boat travelling from Atikagome to Wayokope, where their school is located.

Twelve pupils managed to swim to safety.

According to residents in the area, the eight were among twenty people who were on the boat when the incident occurred midway into the journey.

DSP Joy Asagbeji, district police commander for Sene west said, “I can only confirm the incidenthas happened. I can’t go any further we are now investigating.”
